We Love to Honor the United States of America

4th of July is USA Real Estate’s favorite time of year. The USA team loves to celebrate the holiday and take a moment to honor the great United States of America.

During the 4th of July festivities, it is essential to remember the members of your family of the four-legged variety.  The Yavapai Humane Society experiences a significant increase in the number of lost and injured pets during the 4th of July. Unfortunately, pets don’t view the fireworks to be as spectacular as humans view them. From the pet’s perspective, fireworks are loud and scary.

Fireworks can be a stressful time for both humans and animals. Dogs are particularly sensitive to loud noises, while cats often hide away when they feel scared or threatened. To keep your pet safe during fireworks, here are some tips:

1. Keep them indoors. Keeping pets inside on the night of fireworks is one of the most important steps you can take to keep them safe. Ensure all windows and doors are securely closed, and if necessary, put blackout curtains over any windows.

2. Create a safe space. Designate an area in your house for your pet during fireworks displays. Try to make this space as comfortable as possible by including their favorite toys and treats.

3. White noise. Playing white noise, such as the sound of a fan or radio, can help to drown out some of the loud noises associated with fireworks. Background noise can help keep your pet calm and relaxed while inside for the duration of the display.

4. Distraction activities. If your pet is particularly anxious, try engaging them with activities they enjoy. These activities could be playing a game of fetch or giving them something to chew on.

5. Don’t punish them. If your pet is displaying behavior that is out of the ordinary due to their fear of fireworks, it can be tempting to chastise them for it. However, punishing your pet is unlikely to help and can worsen their anxiety. Remember that they are scared, not misbehaving on purpose.

6. If you are on vacation during the 4th of July holiday, board your pets with family or friends to keep them safe and confined.

7. Get your pet licensed and microchipped. Microchips are a great way to locate your pet if they flee during the firework presentation.

Following these tips can help keep your furry friends safe during fireworks displays. Make sure you take the necessary precautions so that you and your pets have a happy and stress-free holiday season!
