Not only is Prescott, Arizona, a great place to call home . . . it is a great place to learn history!  Prescott was founded in 1864 as the Territorial Capital of Arizona.  The name “Prescott” was chosen in honor of William Hickling Prescott, who is the author of The History of the Conquest of Mexico.
In the heart of Prescott stands the 100 year old downtown Courthouse.  In addition to holding court and the legal affairs of Yavapai County, the beautiful downtown Prescott square is home to events, weddings, and festivals.
To celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the Yavapai County Courthouse, the Arizona Superior Court in Yavapai County is hosting an open house to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the laying of the Yavapai County Courthouse cornerstone. This event will take place on Saturday, October 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Prescott Courthouse, 120 S. Cortez St.  (Docents will be onsite to share their knowledge and help guide visitors through the courthouse.)
Visitors can enjoy an additional exhibit area on the first floor near the Law Library that will be showcasing historical items that have been used in the courthouse throughout the last 100 years.
